Parish Ministries

Parish Council

  • St. Johns Parish Council, working with our pastor, is committed to meet the spiritual and material needs of our parish community. The council consists of elected and appointed members from the church body. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Finance Committee

  • Finance committee is a consultative body to the pastor. The committee reviews and analyzes the stewardship of the parish and provides the pastor with recommendations regarding financial policies and develops the yearly budget. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Building and Grounds

  • Responsible for planning facility maintenance and the periodic parish work days; some members have construction experience, others coordinate volunteers and keep the place tidy

The Third Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy

  • Founded in 1218, the Third Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy is an association of lay people integrated into the Mercedarian family participating in its redemptive spirit of “ransoming the captives”. We continue the redemptive mission seeking those who in danger of losing their faith or fallen away from the church, and those held captive by social or political systems. The Mercedarian family follows the Rule of St. Augustine. The Third Order at St. John the Evangelist fulfills its mission by: praying the rosary weekly with families, finding those in need of the Sacraments and filling the social needs of the community.

Alliance of the Two Hearts

  • Speaking about the “alliance of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary” is a biblical way of speaking about their intimate association and union with one another for the sake of our redemption.  The prayer group meets for First Friday/Saturday evening Mass and devotions.

Legion of Mary/ Home Communion

  • The members meet for regular meetings.  They bring the Eucharist to any parishioners who are unable to come to church.  They also assist with welcoming new parishioners to the community through home visitation.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • A multi-level program of instruction in small group fromat to facilitate greater understanding and fluency in the English language.  A compllementary program in Spanish is planned.
